The strongest gust of the May 2026 storm.
On the night of May 28, 2026, a windstorm crossed the whole Columbia Basin. The Ephrata airport recorded a 71 mph gust, the highest reading reported that night, according to the Columbia Basin Herald.
Wind like that doesn’t always tear shingles off. More often it lifts them, breaks the seal strip underneath, and lets them settle back down looking fine from the street. The next hard wind or the next rain finds the gap.
Ephrata also has plenty of older homes around downtown, where chimneys, porch roofs and old flashing are the usual places water gets in.
Where Ephrata roofs give out.
Broken seal strips
Shingles that were lifted by wind but didn’t blow off. They look normal from the ground and leak later. We check the edges and ridges by hand.
Chimney and wall flashing
On older homes, the metal where the roof meets a chimney or a wall is often the first thing to fail. We trace leaks there before blaming the shingles.
Roofs past 20 years
Plenty of asphalt roofs are near the end of their life by then. If patches keep chasing new leaks, we’ll show you why a replacement makes more sense.
Roofing first, exterior too.
New roofs, leak repairs and inspections are the core of the work. Exterior projects come along when a job needs them.
Roof replacement
Tear-off to the deck, new membrane, underlayment, metal and shingles, built for Ephrata wind and sun.

Ephrata roofing questions.
Do you serve Ephrata?
Yes. Ephrata is about 18 miles northwest of our shop in Moses Lake and part of our regular Grant County service area. Call (509) 998-1944 to set a time.
How can I tell if the windstorm damaged my roof?
From the ground, look for shingles that sit crooked, bare strips along the ridge or edges, or granules piled at the downspouts. Inside, check ceilings and the attic after the next rain. If you can’t tell, an inspection gives you a photo of every item.
Will you tell me if it only needs a repair?
Yes. If a repair will do it, we say so, and the photos show why. If it needs a new roof, you see why in the photos too.
Can you fix trim, fascia or a deck at the same time?
Yes. StoneHaven also repairs rotted fascia and trim, paints exteriors, builds decks and builds additions, so a roof job that turns up soft fascia doesn’t need a second contractor.
